Vancouver Chinese Bakery Gets Lease Terminated & Shut Down After 14+ Years

It looks like itโ€™s the end of the road for one of Vancouverโ€™s longtime Chinese bakeries.

While on a stroll along Victoria Drive, we spotted a notice taped to the door of Karmony Cake House, a bakery that has been part of the neighbourhood since around 2011.

The letter, dated July 28, 2025, is a termination notice from Elite Bailiff Services, stating that the landlord has taken possession of the premises and changed the locks.

It instructs the tenant to arrange removal of any property or risk the goods being placed into storage at their expense.

Peeking inside, the space has already been cleared out.

Counters stand bare, decorations are sparse, and the kitchen looks emptied, signaling that the bakery has likely quietly shut down for good.

Karmony Cake House opened more than a decade ago and was quintessential Chinese style bakery.

Much like other household names such as Maxim or Annaโ€™s Cake House, Karmony was known offered pineapple buns, egg tarts, wife cakes, chicken buns, and a variety of daily pastries that fueled the communityโ€™s mornings and afternoons.

In recent years, though, the bakery faced a string of challenges.

Online comments suggest that after the pandemic, Karmony experienced multiple ups and downs, including a temporary closure, a change in ownership, and periods of being unexpectedly shuttered.

Despite efforts to keep the doors open, stability never returned.

Now with the official termination of its lease and its storefront cleared out, Karmony Cake House has quietly joined the list of Vancouver food spots that has disappeared from the cityโ€™s food scene.

Other longtime Vancouver food spots that have shut down this year include Zefferellis, Pizzeria Farina, and Kibune Sushi Restaurant.
