Back in October 2023, a devastating fire swept through several businesses on W41st Ave in Kerrisdale, including Pho Tan.
This brought an abrupt end to the restaurant’s 13-year-long presence in the neighbourhood.
But a new beginning is on the horizon for Pho Tan, as they set to make a comeback in a new location.
Pho Tan is bouncing back, finding a new home by E41st Ave & Kingsway, just two stores down from the recently reopened Amay’s House.
This move marks a significant transition from its long-established Kerrisdale location.
Pho Tan’s journey began on Main Street as a quintessential old-school pho spot.
In 2009, the Kerrisdale location was opened by the brother of the Main Street restaurant’s owner, expanding the family-run culinary legacy.
The Kerrisdale branch was introduced with a more concise menu, becoming a neighbourhood staple for its affordable pho, Vietnamese rice plates, banh mi, and bubble tea.
The closure in Kerrisdale is indeed a bittersweet moment for many locals who had grown fond of Pho Tan’s homely ambiance and hearty meals.
However, there is excitement in the air as the family has informed Noms Magazine that they are preparing to reopen in their new Kingsway location by the end of this month or early February.
As Pho Tan turns the page, its loyal customers and newcomers alike can look forward to enjoying the familiar tastes and warmth that the restaurant has always been known for, now in a fresh setting.
Last year we saw an increase in closures of family-run businesses and legacy food joints.
This transition from Kerrisdale to Kingsway represents not just a change of address, but the resilience and enduring spirit of a family business that continues to serve its community with passion.
