After 16 years of tacos, cerveza, and late-night cravings, La Taqueria is saying goodbye to its original West Hastings location – the one that started it all.
The team shared with Noms Magazine that their flagship Pinche Taco Shop, which opened back in 2009 and introduced Vancouver to its first-ever taqueria-style taco experience, will be closing this month due to a building redevelopment project announced last year.
It’s the end of an era.
Located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, this OG spot helped define the city’s taco scene with its bold flavours and street food authenticity.
Their menu, made with traditional recipes and a commitment to local, organic, and sustainable ingredients.
But don’t worry, they’re not going out quietly.
To honour its legacy, La Taqueria is throwing a two-day farewell fiesta on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 (starting at 7PM).
Every purchase will come with a free cerveza, and they’re wrapping things up in style with a final Ultimate Sunday Funday, where everything on the menu will be just $5, while supplies last.
So yes, this is your chance to crush some tacos and raise a beer to one of Vancouver’s OG taco pioneers.
While it’s always tough to see longtime local staples go, this isn’t the end of La Taqueria.
They still have 3 other locations across Metro Vancouver, and a new one is on the way.
As we shared earlier this year, La Taqueria is opening a new spot across from SFU Harbour Centre, inside the new 601 Waterfront Hub Tower.
Slated to open this summer, that spot will return to their roots: a Mexico City-style taqueria, with a sharper focus on the unique tacos you’d find streetside south of the border.
And given the location, it’s primed to become a go-to for students, downtown workers, and taco hunters alike.
La Taqueria Hastings now joins Ramen One and Zefferelli’s as other food closure this May.
