If you have been watching the storefront at 1935 West 4th Avenue like it’s a season finale, the wait is finally over.
The space formerly home to Chi has reopened as GlassHouse, and it has brought some major changes along with the new name.
For locals, this address has history.
Chi announced it was closing in August, with a final day of service set for August 14, 2025, and it felt like the end of a real Kitsilano era.
The restaurant originally opened in 2016 under Chef Chi Le, a MasterChef Vietnam runner-up who built a following for modern Vietnamese cooking before later shifting the space into a fully plant-based concept.

After that goodbye, the space appeared to come back under new ownership for a stretch, before pivoting again.
Now, the website officially points visitors to GlassHouse, noting that the team has rebranded and stating simply that “Chi needs her name back”.
The biggest shock for returning regulars?
The menu is no longer strictly plant-based.
GlassHouse has pivoted to a “flexitarian” approach, offering a mix of vegan dishes alongside meat and seafood plates.
It seems designed specifically for those tricky group dinners where half the table is vegan and the other half wants a steak.

On the vegan side, the menu leans into comfort and more snacky energy, like bread and butter with rotating sourdough, a seitan chorizo cheese dip, and even a poutine made with cashew cheese curds.
But for the friend who wants the opposite?
They can now order Chicken Karaage, Steamed Clams, Flambe Prawns, or even a full Roasted Chicken entree.
The handheld section reads like a peace treaty between diets, with bison burgers on one end and an Impossible burger and seitan-based sandwiches on the other.
For deals, GlassHouse lists happy hour every day from 3 pm to 6 pm, plus all day Sunday.

They also run weekly specials like 15% off the Tasting Menu on Mondays and a Beer & Burger deal on Tuesdays.
If you loved Chi for its vibe, this is your sign to come peek inside again, especially if your friend group is always split between vegan and not.
