Vancouver’s restaurant continues to struggle post-pandemic, with numerous cherished eateries shutting their doors each week.
While some bid farewell with grand send-off parties or public announcements, others quietly fade away without much notice.
The latter rings true for Hanoi Old Quarters on Victoria Drive, which has recently closed its doors, slipping away quietly without any notice.
A Short-Lived Legacy
Opening in 2019 as a sister restaurant to the popular Mr. Red Cafe, Hanoi Old Quarters mirrored much of its sibling’s ambiance and culinary approach.
It brought the same cozy vibe, sprinkled with elements of Vietnamese culture, and a menu that echoed familiar flavours.
But it wasn’t just a complete carbon copy; Hanoi Old Quarters had its fair share of unique offerings. The Egg Coffee, a rare find in Vancouver, was a highlight, and its wooden etched menu added a distinct, rustic charm.
A Silent Goodbye
According to our friend, the closure of Hanoi Old Quarters happened around 2 months ago and was a silent affair.
There was no grand closing event, no social media farewell – just a quiet transition as a new Indian restaurant took its place.
This exit reflects a reality many restaurants have faced post-pandemic.
While die-hard fans might mourn the loss of Hanoi Old Quarters, Victoria Drive remains a hub for Vietnamese cuisine enthusiasts. The area is known for having some of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the city, offering plenty of options for locals and visitors.
