Burnaby’s Premium Hot Pot Spot Is Launching An Old Kowloon City Pop Up Concept

A premium Burnaby hot pot restaurant is making a move nobody saw coming.

The Dolar Shop at Station Square is temporarily turning itself into a completely different hot pot concept as a 30-day pop-up.

A Noms Mag community member tipped us off, forwarding along the VIP newsletter that announced the whole thing.

If you do not know The Dolar Shop, it is an upscale Chinese hot pot chain that started in Shanghai in 2004 and built its name on individual hot pots.

This pop-up is an interesting move from the chain.

From July 1 to July 31, the Station Square location is running a brand-new concept built around big, shareable Macau-style clay pot hot pots, under a retro Hong Kong banner themed around old Kowloon City.

It is a strange pivot, and as far as we can tell, the first pop-up of its kind for the chain here.

The clay pots are built to feed a crowd.

The lineup includes a Macau Legendary Pork Bone Broth at $59.99 for the large size, a Golden Collagen Chicken Broth at $68.99 for a whole chicken, and a Macau spiced white pepper and chicken broth, all sized to serve roughly six to eight people.

Around the pots, the menu leans into salt and pepper appetizers like a giant fried Chinese donut, frog legs, and fish skin, plus a long list of live seafood and handmade meatballs.

Last year, we reported that this exact location had been listed for sale as a business asset deal, with an asking price around $1.8 million.

That listing has since been unpublished.

Both Dolarshop locations (Burnaby and Richmond) launched late night all you can eat menus in Spring, but this pop up is only happening in Station Square.

Whether this pop up is attractive enough will be one to see.

Afterall, the Metrotown area is flooded with hot pot options. It also doesn’t quite help when they had a $20 off promo slapped on the door of this Station Square Dolarshop…

It makes you really consider hopping over to ChoCho a block down instead.
