Guess who’s back?
Ki Cafe’s back!
After closing their doors in December 2024 for a much-needed breather and reevaluation, Burnaby’s longtime manga dessert cafe has officially begun its comeback arc.
On March 30th, the Ki Cafe team dropped an Instagram update announcing their soft reopening.
That means your Totoro-themed daydreams are no longer on pause.
To recap: Ki Cafe first opened in 2014 and became the cozy spot for anime/manga lovers.
With a wall of manga books, shelves of anime figures, Totoro forest vibes, and one very memorable kunai bathroom key, the place felt more like a Ghibli room than a regular cafe.
But like many small businesses navigating brutal economic terrain, they announced an indefinite closure in late 2024, saying they needed time to regroup and reimagine.
Well now, the magic is slowly returning.
For now, Ki Cafe will return by only being open Fridays through Sundays, from 10am to 10pm.
April 4th will be the first day of their comeback.
The menu is simplified to drinks and desserts, but they’ve launched with their signature Sakura-themed menu, so you can still get those cute, seasonal pastel treats while soaking up the ambiance.
Adn according to the post, it’s just the owners running the whole show right now.
Interior-wise, things are still a work in progress.
There are some unfinished renovation bits, but the team is asking for grace as they continue to transform the space into something even more special.
This isn’t their “final form” (their words, not ours), but this is the comeback journey and we’re happy Burnaby locals have another spot to enjoy.
