It’s sad sad news for Richmond & Vancouver locals as Cafe D’Lite Express, a cherished food spot in the Aberdeen Centre Food Court, has announced its closure.
Earlier today, Mamalee – the sister restaurant of Cafe D’Lite Express – shared on its Instagram profile that they will be unfortunately closing the stall on March 8, 2023.
The Cafe D’Lite Express has been serving some of the best Hainanese Chicken and Rice combo for the last 14 years. It was a staple and must-get when dining at Aberdeen Food Court. Its popularity, price, and taste even earned its spot on our Vancouver Food Bucketlist.
Below is the full announcement by Mamalee about the closure:
“Dear Our Valued Customers,
It is with a heavy heart to inform you that our Cafe D’Lite Express food court will be closing its doors on March, 8 2023.
This news is extremely disheartening for us. However due to the inability to reach a mutually advantageous agreement with the Landlord, the outcome was beyond our control.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your patronage and loyalty over the past 14 years. We invite you to visit our two sister locations, Mamalee Malaysian Delight in Kitsilano and Downtown Vancouver (www.mamalee.ca), where we will continue to provide the same high-quality food and service. We are actively exploring new opportunities and looking for a new location, so please stay tuned for updates on Mamalee’s Facebook. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your continued support and understanding during this challenging period, and we look forward to the possibility of serving you again in the future.
Sincerely,
Cafe D’Lite Express”
Sadly, it appears that the lease renewal negotiations fell through and didn’t make sense for the food stall – a common occurrence amongst restaurants nowadays.
Although you won’t be able to find their delicious Hainanese Chicken & Rice at Aberdeen Food Court soon, you can still their sister restaurant, Mamalee, in Kits and their upcoming Chinatown outpost.
