Sad news for those in the Richmond Oval area who crave Hong Kong café classics.
Copa Café, a beloved Cha Chaan Teng (Hong Kong Style Cafe) chain, is closing its Richmond Oval outpost after 9 years of serving up iconic dishes like baked pork chop on rice, sizzling plates, and bubble tea.
If you grew up in Vancouver and are familiar with Chinese cuisine, chances are you’ve enjoyed a meal at Copa Café at least once.
A community member tipped us off about the closure, and we confirmed the news during a recent walk by the restaurant, where a notice is posted on the door.
Unfortunately, this location will be shutting down for good on September 23rd.
Copa Café has been a fixture in Vancouver’s Hong Kong café scene since it first opened in 2006.
But in recent years, the chain has faced closures one after another.
Now, it seems the Richmond Oval location is the latest to go.
The message from Copa Café Richmond thanks customers for their support and encourages them to visit their original Coquitlam location, which will continue to serve diners in the coming years.
As Copa Café prepares to depart, rumors are already swirling about who might take over the unit.
Word on the street is that Big Way Hot Pot might be moving in.
If true, this would mark Big Way’s third location in Richmond—a pretty interesting development for the area.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see who will actually step into Copa Café’s shoes.
And don’t forget to share this with your friends who might want to say goodbye to Copa Café!
