Yet another downtown Vancouver food spot is shutting down.

The West End has been experiencing a wave of closures, and this gourmet grocery store is the latest to join the list.

Our Noms Mag community member Kait spotted a closure notice at Denman Street’s Kev’s Epicerie.

First opened in 2023, the shop was founded by Kevin and restaurant consultant and YouTuber Chef Eric Arrouzé.

According to Chef Eric’s personal website, he has a background that includes working as a Second Sous Chef at Le Crocodile and teaching at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, VCC, and UBC, Chef Eric built a following of over 90,000 subscribers on YouTube, sharing expert culinary knowledge.

Kev’s Epicerie set itself apart by offering imported gourmet products curated for serious food lovers, with an emphasis on elevating home cooking and entertaining.

Customers could chat with Chef Eric himself, learning the backstory and best uses for the high-quality jams, spices, and other specialty local and global ingredients the store carried.

It appears that the closure was first announced on the store’s Instagram page in early January with a 20% inventory discount.

Our recent downtown walk through found that discount has increased with a “Closing Sale: 40% off everything” sign up.

Although the lights were still on when we walked by, on Google it is already tagged as “Permanently Closed”.

Kev’s Epicerie now joins other recent West End closures, including VietSub (rebranding) and Arike, as yet another independent business pushed out in Vancouver’s changing food and retail landscape.
