Tragic Fatal Stabbing Of Vancouver Japanese Chef Leaves City Stunned

Vancouver’s food industry and locals are in shock this week.

It was reported that the police responded to a man in distress due to a stabbing in the early morning on June 5th.

The man has now been identified to be Wataru Kakiuchi, a 32-year-old Japanese chef from Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown.

According to a release from the Vancouver Police Department, the incident occurred near Union and Main Street before 3:30 AM.

Wataru, known for his vibrant energy and culinary talent, was a cherished figure at Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown.

Despite the efforts of first responders to save him, Wataru succumbed to his injuries before being transported to the hospital.

The police have yet to determine a motive and are urging anyone with information to come forward or call 604-717-2500.

A sign was posted outside the Yaletown Hapa Izakaya stating that the restaurant would be closed for the evening due to the unforeseen circumstances.

The incident has again sparked discussions about ongoing safety and mental health issues the city is facing.

As of June 6, no arrest has been made.
