Earlier this month, a beloved Richmond food court spot, Cafe D’Lite Express, closed after 14 years of operation. It was known for its Hainanese Chicken & Rice and was affiliated with Mamalee, another Malaysian restaurant located in Kitsilano.
Unfortunately, the owners were unable to find a compromise with the landlord and were forced to close up shop.
Luckily for locals who are in search of some quick and delicious Malaysian food, we discovered that top Richmond restaurant, John 3:16 Malaysian, Delight is taking over the empty food stall unit in Aberdeen Food Court.
According to the sign placed at the unit, John 3:16 Malaysian Express will be the name of the stall.
It’s not their first food court stall rodeo!
Technically, John 3:16 Malaysian Delight has been part of the Richmond scene in some form since 2009, when owner Daniel Chew first immigrated to Vancouver and opened up a food court stall in Richmond Public Market called Yummy Malaysian Delight.
This spot eventually was sold and Daniel opened his current bustling location near Richmond City Hall around 2016.
According to our source, the John 3:16 Malaysian Express is aiming to open in May/June.
There’s no better way to fill the gap that Cafe D’Lite left than with John 3:16 Malaysian Delight. This popular restaurant is known for its quality and delicious Hainanese Chicken & Rice, as well as flavourful Laksa.
