Richmond and Vancouver’s West End area are undergoing significant changes in their food scenes.
Just last week, we shared the news of Toronto’s Japanese matcha dessert cafe Daigyo quietly shutting down its West End outpost.
Well, now we know who’s stepping in to fill the space—OiSO Kimchi Cafe!
After two years of serving up homey Korean comfort food on Kingsway, OiSO Cafe announced via Instagram that they will be relocating to the former Daigyo unit in the West End.
The move marks a new chapter for the casual Korean cafe bistro, which was started by the original owner of Damso, a longtime Korean restaurant that had been a staple in Downtown Vancouver before changing ownership.
OiSO was meant to be what Damso was supposed to be—a simple approach to Korean food.
The menu focuses heavily on kimchi, the iconic Korean fermented vegetable, which is the star ingredient in many of their dishes. Whether it’s kimchi stew, kimchi makguksu noodles, or their creative Seafood Waffles.
Oiso Cafe’s last day at its Kingsway location was August 29th, and while there’s no word yet on when they will officially reopen in the West End, locals can look forward to the new addition soon.
The West End is already home to a strong lineup of Korean restaurants, including Sura, Nom Nom, Jinmi, Kyochon Chicken, and Unni Pastries.
Oiso will be joining this thriving community of Korean eateries, offering its own take on traditional comfort food.
