After months of curiosity about what would take over Autostrada’s former Main Street location, we finally know the answer.

Introducing Nui, a fresh take on traditional Korean comfort food coming to the Little Mountain/Riley Park neighbourhood.

Behind Nui is Chef Jae Hwang, a Korea-born, Canada-raised chef who found his passion for food watching Anthony Bourdain travel the world through his screen.

That inspiration led him into Vancouver’s restaurant scene, where he built his career at top spots like Maenam, Bufala, Wildebeest, and A-OK Commissary at Aritzia’s Head Office.

But no matter how much he mastered Western cuisine, something always felt missing—the comfort of Korean food, the flavours that brought him home after long shifts.

And anyone who has had a bubbling seolleong tang, galbi tang, soondubu jjigae knows EXACTLY that kind of feeling Chef Jae was talking about.

That longing led to the creation of Nui, a place where Chef Jae could share the depth of Korean cuisine through his own lens.

Chef Jae shared with Noms Magazine that “At the heart of Nui is gukbap, a simple yet deeply comforting dish of rice and hot soup that my father loved and that became my favourite.”

Another signature item will be Dwae-ji Gomtang, a popular Korean soup made with pork that is known for its comforting warmth.

Chef Jae shared that “Given Vancouverites’ love for soups like pho and ramen, we knew our gomtang would be a perfect fit. Our goal is to introduce something new to Vancouver’s soup scene—one that’s both authentic and unforgettable.”

Nui’s 800 sq ft, 29-seat space reflects the same blend of tradition and modernity found in the food.

The design pairs warm wood tones with sleek stainless steel, creating a cozy yet refined atmosphere that feels both inviting and contemporary.

As someone who is a big fan of Korean cuisine AND Korean soup dishes, this is one we’re excited for!

With Nui’s soft opening on March 11, Main Street is about to get a new go-to spot for Korean comfort food.
