Richmond Chinese Grilled Fish Restaurant Quietly Closes After 1 Year; Spicy Rumours Emerge

Richmond has been buzzing with new food spots popping up while others quietly close their doors.

The latest casualty in this wave of changes?

2Gather Grilled Fish & BBQ Restaurant on No.3 Road, which seems to have permanently closed down.

And there are quite a few theories flying around about why.

2Gather, which specialized in grilled fish and skewers, opened back in Summer 2023.

It was known for its stylish, hip nightclub-style interior that added a unique vibe to the local food scene.

The renovations definitely cost a hefty amount.

But by May 2024, people started noticing a sign on the door mentioning upgrades to the exhaust system.

The restaurant claimed to be temporarily closed, but as the months dragged on, that “temporary” status turned into “permanently closed,” and Google Maps made it official.

The plot thickens, though.

According to various comments on Chinese social media, there seems to be a spicy internal drama behind the closure.

One theory claims that 2Gather was opened by a group of private school parents, and one of the owners allegedly ran away with his partner’s and his wife’s money.

People also mentioned that this same owner was a bit of a known playboy with a rich “love history”, adding some extra spice to an already juicy story.

Another individual who claimed to be a previous supplier of the restaurant stated that they did not receive payment for months.

Although we couldn’t verify these claims, they certainly sound like something straight out of a drama.

Adding another layer to the story, some social media users shared screenshots showing the restaurant’s commercial listing appearing as early as February 2024.

This hints that trouble was brewing much earlier than the supposed “exhaust upgrades.”

The location has seen multiple occupants over the years, with Dumpling King being the most recent tenant before 2Gather.

Interestingly, Dumpling King is now moving into the former Hot Pot Palace unit, continuing the game of musical chairs on No.3 Road.

While the closure of 2Gather adds to the list of businesses that couldn’t survive, it also leaves space for the next hopeful spot to try its luck.
