It seems like we’re often the bearers of bad news as Metro Vancouver’s food industry continues to be wrecked…
Today, we’re saddened to share that Cocoru, Richmond’s cherished Korean Fried Chicken and drink spot, has shut down.
Despite its Google business listing indicating it’s still open, this week we spotted the windows all covered up.
Both its Instagram and Facebook have sadly been deactivated as well.
A friend in contact with Cocoru’s owner has also informed us that the eatery actually closed its doors back in December 2023.
Since opening in 2016, Cocoru has been THE spot in Richmond for some seriously good Korean fried chicken, cold beer, soju, and great times.
We’ve celebrated more than a few birthdays and milestones there ourselves, and every visit was nothing short of fantastic.
The owner, made sure of it, always there to guarantee everyone had a blast.
In 2021 Cocoru expanded with a new location in Steveston Village.
Unfortunately, that too has closed, with 50s Burger set to take over the space.
This is a double blow for Richmond foodies, especially coming on the news of the recent closure of another longtime fav, Ebisu.
That’s two beloved spots now gone and we can’t help but be moved by a wave of nostalgia.
The word on the street is that a new Chinese food concept will be moving into Cocoru’s Alexandra location.
Cocoru wasn’t just a restaurant; it was a community gathering spot where the owner treated everyone like family.
Its closure marks the end of an era for Richmond’s food scene, but also a reminder of how important it is to support our local eateries during these tough tough times.
