Burnaby’s food scene has taken a few hits in recent months.
At least seven food spots across the city have shut their doors since the start of the year, spanning Kingsway, Metrotown, Brentwood, and North Road.
Here is a look at the Burnaby restaurants and food spots that have recently closed.
1. Saboten

The Japanese tonkatsu chain closed its stall at the Amazing Brentwood’s TABLES food court after roughly five years. Saboten invited customers to visit its remaining Aberdeen Centre location in Richmond.
This was the fourth recent departure from the TABLES food court within the past 12 months.
Address: The Amazing Brentwood, TABLES Food Court, Burnaby, BC
2. American Cheesesteak Co

American Cheesesteak Co closed its Metrotown location after a 10-year run. The brand was co-founded in 2011 by Anthony Sedlak, who won Food Network’s Superstar Chef Challenge.
The team says they plan to relocate, but a new spot has not been confirmed.
Address: 4700 Kingsway Avenue, Unit E10, Burnaby, BC
3. Roadside Spicy Pot

This Sichuan-style skewer spot on Kingsway served chuan chuan xiang for seven years before announcing its closure this spring. The team cited the economic downturn and inflation as the reason.
The restaurant had previously been listed for sale.
Address: 105-6462 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC
4. Arisu Korean BBQ

A go-to Korean BBQ spot on North Road for nearly a decade, Arisu shut down its original location after opening in 2016.
The space is already being taken over by Sizzle, a new all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ concept. The Edmonds location remains open.
Address: 203-4501 North Road, Burnaby, BC
5. Bella Gelateria

The award-winning gelato brand permanently closed its Brentwood Mall location after roughly three years. The team cited tenancy issues, noting they could not reach an agreement with the mall.
Bella Gelateria still operates four other Metro Vancouver locations.
Address: 4567 Lougheed Highway, Burnaby, BC
6. Green Basil Thai Restaurant

After 20 years on Kingsway, this family-run Thai restaurant closed for good. The family behind Green Basil chose to retire on their own terms.
The space is being taken over by Yin Ji Chang Fen, a Cantonese rice noodle roll chain.
Address: 4623 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC
7. Lattea

The bubble tea shop at Crystal Mall appears to have quietly closed for good. Lattea took over the space from Yifang Fruit Tea after that chain pulled out of BC.
The brand removed the Kingsway address from its Instagram, and the interior has been partially cleared out.
Other locations remain open.
Address: 4500 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC
