If you’re a fan of mochi donuts, brace yourself for some bittersweet news.
On January 14th, Mochido took to Instagram to announce the closure of their Vancouver and Coquitlam shops at the end of January.
In a heartfelt post, the Mochido team shared:
“Hi everyone, we have some bittersweet news to share—after so many amazing years, we’ll be closing our Vancouver and Coquitlam shops at the end of January. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s not goodbye forever.”
They reassured fans that their temporarily closed Vancouver store would reopen starting tomorrow (Jan 15) until the end of the month for one last chance to grab their beloved treats.
The closure marks the end of an era for Mochido, which first won Vancouver’s heart back in 2021 when they began operating out of a commissary kitchen.
Known for their fresh-to-order mochi donuts, the brand has become synonymous with Asian-inspired flavors like Guava Cheesecake, Dalgona Latte, and Matcha Bingsu.
Their unique pull-apart donut shape and soft-yet-chewy texture made them an instant hit with sweet tooths across the city.
In addition to their brick-and-mortar locations, Mochido has been a familiar name at pop-ups and local events, such as their Bentall Centre appearance in October 2024, Muji, and Chinatown Fest.
Their summer 2024 opening in Coquitlam’s Pine Tree neighbourhood marked a significant milestone for the brand’s growth.
The announcement did not specify the reason for the closure.
But it’s not all sad news—the team emphasized that this is “just the beginning of something new.”
While their physical stores will close, the wording of their announcement leaves fans hopeful for a return in a different form.
No matter if it’s for a nostalgic final bite or to show support for this local favourite, now’s the time to visit their Vancouver or Coquitlam locations before they close this chapter at the end of January.
