Richmond’s food scene has taken a string of hits in early 2026.
From decades-old family restaurants to newer franchises, at least 10 food spots across the city have closed their doors in recent months.
Here is a look at what the city has lost.
1. Garaku Soup Curry

Richmond’s first taste of the Sapporo-born soup curry chain lasted roughly two years.
Garaku’s lease at Aberdeen Centre was terminated after the restaurant accumulated over $53,000 in unpaid rent.
The brand, founded in 2007, still operates locations across Japan, Bangkok, and Taipei.
The same unit previously saw Gram Cafe’s lease terminated for the same reason.
Address: Unit 1360, 4151 Hazelbridge Way, Richmond, BC
2. Seto Japanese Restaurant

One of Richmond’s few authentically Japanese-owned sushi restaurants has closed after 29 years.
The family-run spot on Alexandra Road announced its closure in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
The reason: the owners are retiring. Regulars who grew up dining there offered congratulations rather than condolences.
Address: 155-8460 Alexandra Rd, Richmond, BC
3. Manzo Izakaya

After 26 years on Alexandra Road, the longtime Japanese izakaya has closed its doors.
Known as a late-night gathering spot with signature robata skewers, Manzo posted a farewell notice on its front door and Instagram.
Its sister restaurant, Manzo Itamae at Capstan Way, remains open.
Address: 8391 Alexandra Rd, Richmond, BC
4. Little Karp Seafood and Bar

This West Coast fine dining spot with Asian influences closed after three years for a deeply personal reason.
Owner Fanfan shared on Red Note that she was commuting five hours daily between the restaurant and her daughter’s school in West Vancouver.
She chose to prioritize family, with plans to restart someday.
Address: 8631 Alexandra Rd #110, Richmond, BC
5. MACU Tea

The popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain closed its Richmond Capstan location, the third Metro Vancouver MACU Tea to shut down in just over two weeks.
All three closures were operated by the same franchisee. The Kerrisdale location, run by a different operator, remains open.
MACU’s sign-off teased a possible return.
Address: 1316-8368 Capstan Way, Richmond, BC
6. Good Co. Bars

The Steveston Village sports bar, formerly known as Colony, has closed after roughly three years.
The waterfront location seated over 250 with Fraser River views and featured 14 permanent taps. Good Co. did not publicly state a reason for the closure. Four other Metro Vancouver locations remain open.
Address: 4020 Bayview St, Steveston Village, Richmond, BC
7. Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle Aberdeen

The Aberdeen Centre outpost of the award-winning Taiwanese beef noodle chain has closed after 16 years.
Chef Hung, whose founder won three Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival titles, once operated seven Metro Vancouver locations.
The chain has been steadily contracting, with its downtown, Kerrisdale, and West Vancouver spots all previously shuttered.
A new spot called Taoke is in progress of taking over the unit.
Address: 4151 Hazelbridge Way, Aberdeen Centre, Richmond, BC
8. Meiten Japanese Katsu & Bar

This Aberdeen Centre katsu spot quietly closed after roughly two years without any official announcement.
Meiten offered all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner sets alongside a la carte katsu, sushi, and tempura. Reviews were mixed, with praise for food quality but criticism of slow service.
Address: 4151 Hazelbridge Way, Level 2, Aberdeen Centre, Richmond, BC
9. My Coffee

This Lansdowne Centre food court staple has closed after more than 15 years.
The closure was not voluntary; the landlord did not renew the lease.
The shuttering comes amid Lansdowne Centre’s revival of new tenants like Cotti Coffee and Baskin-Robbins, who continue to move in.
Address: Lansdowne Centre Food Court, Richmond, BC
10. YGF Malatang (杨国福麻辣烫)

The Richmond outpost of one of the world’s largest DIY malatang chains has permanently closed after six years.
Vancouver Coastal Health ordered a closure in February due to sewage contamination at the plaza.
While neighbouring businesses reopened, YGF never did.
A new spot called Chengdu Noodle is taking over.
Address: 8100 Ackroyd Rd, Richmond, BC
