A couple of months after Steveston said goodbye to its 8-year Filipino fried chicken shop, the same corner is back in the chicken game.
Korean Hot Chicken has quietly opened at 1st Avenue in Richmond, taking over the former Win Win Chick-N unit with a Korean fried chicken menu that runs eight flavours deep.
The new shop soft opened back in late February.
The flavour list is where most of the attention lands.
Options include Soy Garlic, Sweet and Spicy, Golden Cheddar, Honey Butter, Chipotle Jalapeno, Hot Barbecue, and Onion Mayo, with an eighth rounding out the lineup.
The Sweet and Spicy flavour leans on a sticky red chili sauce that the shop calls Korea’s most famous seasoned chicken.
Soy Garlic leans into a sticky, umami-heavy glaze, while Golden Cheddar gets a generous dusting of cheesy cheddar powder.
If you cannot pick just one, there is a Half and Half option on larger sizes that lets you mix any two flavours from the full list.
For proper meals, the Chicken and Chips combo sits at $14.99 and the chicken sliders are $7.99 each.
Beyond the chicken, the menu carries Mochi Cheese Balls, which are fried dough balls filled with melty mozzarella and tagged by the shop as “so gooood”.
There is also a GTM Salad (green, tomato, and mozzarella) with a wine vinegar and honey dressing, plus Shake Shake Fries and bibimbap bowls to round it out.
The corner this is all happening on has been a Steveston chicken staple for a while now.
Win Win Chick-N ran that same unit for eight years starting in 2018, building a loyal following for its fresh, hand-breaded Filipino-style fried chicken before announcing its closure on Instagram this past January.
Korean Hot Chicken joins a growing list of recently opened food spots in Richmond including Mui Hung Kee, Molly Tea, and Yogurie.
