The same Chinatown corner that just said goodbye to one Mexican spot is already lining up another.
Loreto, a new Mexican-inspired brunch and bakery, has put up “Coming Soon” signage at the Union Street unit that until recently housed La Cerveceria.

In an announcement post, they framed Loreto as “a space for family, friends, and great food,” with fresh pastries and elevated brunch plates.
Another post teased about their “scratch-made baking and Mexican hint brunch,” with a particular focus on cinnamon rolls.
The “Mexican hint” phrasing suggests the cuisine plays as bakery and brunch first with Mexican accents, rather than a full Mexican menu.
What stands out is the partnership behind the project.

Window decals on the storefront list Loreto as a collaboration involving The Mexican, the long-running Granville Street antojitos y cantina founded by Claudia Romo and Cecilia Dander back in 2011, and Amoka Coffee and Bites, the West End cafe.
The unit itself has been a notoriously tough one to crack.
La Cerveceria’s Chinatown taproom quietly went dark in April 2026 after about 18 months in business.
The owner cited rising rent and costs associated with permits for shutting down.
Renovations are currently underway, and the coming-soon window now reads “Can You Keep a Secret?”

No menu, opening date, or price points have been shared.
Loreto joins a growing list of upcoming food spots across Vancouver, alongside Betsutenjin, Nana’s Green Tea Downtown, and Ramen Danbo Main.
