9 Richmond Restaurants That Recently Shut Down

Richmond’s dining scene has taken a real beating over the past few weeks.

From a 21-year bubble tea institution to one of the city’s best-known ramen chains, a long list of restaurants and cafes have closed or are about to.

Here are the recent Richmond closures we are tracking, plus one longtime favourite that is only relocating.

1. AFURI Ramen

One of the region’s best-known ramen names is bowing out. AFURI, the Japanese chain known for its yuzu-based shio and shoyu ramen, is closing both of its BC locations on June 28, including its Richmond original on Viking Way.

It first landed in Richmond in January 2020 before opening its Main Street flagship, a roughly six-year run.

2. Pepper Lunch

After 11 years, Pepper Lunch has served its last sizzling plate in Richmond. The Japanese chain, where diners cook beef and rice on a screaming-hot iron platter, closed its Central at Garden City location on May 31.

It was the brand’s final outpost in Canada, ending its Metro Vancouver run for good.

3. Bubble Queen Cafe

A 21-year Richmond institution has poured its last drink. Bubble Queen Cafe, one of the area’s earliest dessert bubble tea and bubble waffle shops, closed after its final weekend on May 24.

It was serving drinks like its Ferrero Rocher bubble tea long before the category got crowded.

4. Miku Richmond

Miku’s Richmond outpost is already gone, just months after opening. The River Rock Casino location soft opened on February 17 and shut down in early June, after Aburi Restaurants Canada said it stepped away around May 15.

Aburi has clarified the Richmond spot was run separately and was never on its lease.

5. First Bite

A five-year run came to a heartfelt end for this Richmond bakery. First Bite, a custom dessert shop known for chiffon cakes, macarons, and cartoon birthday cakes, closed its Minoru Boulevard storefront on May 6.

The owner cited burnout and rising costs, though the brand itself has not been sold.

6. Datang Hot Pot

Barely a year in, Datang Hot Pot has called it quits. The self-serve malatang spot, with over 100 ingredients plus Xi’an-style burgers and soft-serve, soft opened in March 2025 and closed in mid-May.

It first said it was shutting for renovations, but the closure turned out to be permanent.

7. Hey Yearn

This one barely got started. Hey Yearn, a Henan-style Wuzhi clay pot restaurant, opened in February and quietly shut down after about three months, with a for-sale sign up by late May.

The Union Square corner unit near Capstan Station has churned through several restaurants, including Pho 37 and B House.

8. Hight Dragon Vietnamese Cuisine

A quiet favourite slipped away inside the Richmond Public Market. Hight Dragon Vietnamese Cuisine, a food court stall serving pho, vermicelli bowls, and grilled pork chop rice, closed in early June after about two years.

Despite a 4.7-star rating it left without a farewell, and a new rice noodle vendor has already moved in.

9. Man Ri Sung

Not gone gone, just moving.

Man Ri Sung, the Korean restaurant known for Peking duck carved tableside, served its last day on the upper level of Aberdeen Centre on June 7 after 10 years.

The team says it is relocating downstairs to the mall’s food court level, so the duck should be back soon.
