New Korean Chinese Restaurant Spotted On Richmond’s Alexandra Road

A Korean Chinese restaurant is moving into the former home of a longtime Sichuan spot on Richmond’s Alexandra Road.

We spotted new signs for Suk Hwa Yeon, written 석화연 in Korean and 石火缘 in Chinese, is up at 2150-8391 Alexandra Road.

The words “Korean Chinese Restaurant” run underneath the name.

There’s no website, social account or opening date for it yet.

The unit belonged to Chengdu Spicy Restaurant, which opened in 2015 with a Sichuan menu of cumin beef, lamb hot pots and Chengdu-style maocai.

When we reported its closure in September 2025, a note on the door confirmed it was permanent.

Then this summer, Chengdu Spicy oddly reopened, and the unit went up for sale shortly after.

But now with a new name on the sign, it’s gone for good this time.

Korean Chinese cooking usually centres on three dishes.

Jajangmyeon is noodles under a thick black bean sauce, jjamppong is a spicy noodle soup with seafood or meat and chili oil, and tangsuyuk is the Korean take on sweet and sour fried meat.

Those are the ones to watch for when a menu shows up.

The new spot won’t have the block to itself.

Down the street, Cherry’s Food House spent seven years cooking Korean Chinese food, switched to a Sichuan menu last fall, and has since switched back to Korean Chinese.

Alexandra Road has seen plenty of change this year.

Seto Japanese Restaurant closed in March after 29 years, and Bon Pot went dark over the summer.

In the same building, at unit 2160, Golden Time BBQ and its self-rotating skewer grills went dark in April, with a banner for a Korean BBQ concept over the old sign.

On the other side of the block, Cafe Gloucester opened its first location outside Vancouver on the street in April, and Ban Bu Xian moved its Sichuan restaurant into the old Grill Party unit.

If Korean Chinese comfort food is your thing, this is one to keep an eye on.

Suk Hwa Yeon joins other upcoming Richmond spots like Trusty Congee King, Lai San Wan Noodles and Sangoku.
