Another day, another closure in Richmond’s ever-changing food scene.
This time, it’s HuDa Restaurant on Alexandra Road.
A “For Sale” sign has popped up in the window, and while the restaurant is currently marked as “temporarily closed” on Google, the signage suggests otherwise.
If you’re not familiar, HuDa is a chain from Beijing that made a name for itself with its fiery Sichuan-style crayfish.
When the Richmond outpost opened in May 2024, it marked the brand’s first arrival into Metro Vancouver and brought with it its bold, spicy dishes.
Their signature hot crayfish was a standout, joined by a lineup of adventurous eats like pig trotters, chicken gizzards, and more.
The space was previously home to Fujiwara Tofu Shop, the Initial D-themed dessert cafe that also quietly closed in 2024.
And now, just a little over a year later, HuDa has followed suit.
No official statement has been made by the restaurant, and it’s unclear whether someone will take over the unit or bring in something entirely new.
But for now, fans of HuDa’s Sichuan heat will have to look elsewhere.
HuDa Restaurant now joins a list of recently closed Richmond food spots, including Pearl Castle, Shanghai Morning, and Cherry’s Tofu House.
