Longtime Downtown Vancouver Oyster Bar Shuts Down After 10 Years Of Service

In a surprising turn for Vancouver’s seafood scene, Rodney’s Oyster House in Gastown has quietly shut its doors after ten years.

Located at 52 Powell St., this beloved oyster bar was known for its vibrant atmosphere and delicious seafood.

Its closure on December 31, 2023, marked the end of an era and another hit to the oyster bar scene in the city, which lost Chewies Coal Harbour last year.

Rodney’s had been a staple in the city for over two decades, first making its mark with its original Yaletown location (which celebrated 25 years last August).

The Gastown branch continued this tradition, offering a unique mix of maritime hospitality and fresh seafood. With its “low tide” happy hours, tasty clam chowder, and renowned crab cakes, Rodney’s had become a fav spot for both Vancouver locals and visitors.

Adding to its charm, Rodney’s Gastown location was housed in a recognized Vancouver Heritage site from the early 1900s, contributing to the historical ambiance of the dining experience.

The closure came without any notice; there were no announcements on their website or social media, and Google now marks it as “Permanently Closed”.

According to Vancouver is Awesome, they have confirmed with Rodney’s that the Gastown location has shut down.

Fortunately for Rodney’s fans, the legacy continues at the Yaletown location.
