A new coffee shop opening in Kitsilano on March 14 is giving away free drinks, but there is one catch.

You have to bring your own cup.

Nomad Coffee is opening its second location at 2143 Yew Street in Kitsilano.

As we previously reported, Nomad is North Vancouver’s zero single-use cup cafe founded by Annette Kim.

She started her coffee journey in 2015 with Bean VGH at Vancouver General Hospital before opening Bean-on-5th in Lower Lonsdale in 2019.

Nomad opened on Bewicke Avenue in North Vancouver in May 2022 as the first cafe in the area to eliminate single-use cups entirely.

To celebrate the Kitsilano opening, the cafe is hosting a BYOC (Bring Your Own Cup) event starting at noon on March 14.

The first 200 guests who show up with their own tumbler, mug, or reusable cup will get a free coffee drink.

There are a few rules to keep in mind.

It is limited to one drink per person and one size only. Pour-over coffee is excluded from the promotion.

If you show up without a cup, you will not be eligible for the freebie.

Nomad operates as a 100 per cent single-use cup free cafe. According to their website, they have saved over 220,000 single-use cups from landfills since opening in 2022.

The brand uses its own reusable clay cups made from clay, water, and salt with a natural mineral glaze.

Customers can rent or purchase a cup, and deposits are returned when the cup comes back.

The concept started after Kim ran a zero-waste cafe where staff were manually removing plastic linings from paper cups so the material could actually be recycled.

That experience pushed her to eliminate disposable cups entirely.

Beyond coffee, Nomad also runs an in-house bakery with a mix of classic and Asian-inspired treats.

Their signature Cloud Espresso and items like the Seoul Gochujang spicy cookie have become fan favourites at the North Van location.

The Kitsilano location has a warm, refined look with rich wood paneling, soft lighting, and a sleek stone bar that gives the space a polished feel.

It feels modern and minimal, but still inviting.

The vibe is definitely well suited for slow coffee, quiet conversations, or settling in for a while.

Kitsilano is not the only expansion on the horizon. Nomad Espresso Bar and Bakery is also set to open inside the new Harry Jerome Community Centre in North Vancouver later in 2026.

Nomad Kits will be joining other recently opened food spots in Vancouver like Cream Pony Main, TheVenti Davie, and Skewers Souvlaki Commercial Drive.
