It’s a sad day for Richmond foodies as Claypot Hot Pot has officially closed its doors.

Sitting along Alexandra Road, this nostalgic dining spot has been a local fav since its opening in 2012.

Claypot was known for its all-you-can-eat hot pot first and then later on the introduction of a unique 3-tier hot pot.

This tiered hotpot allowed you to simultaneously enjoy hot pot, steamed items like fish and dumplings, and BBQ all at once.

The closure was not publicly announced, with no grand goodbyes or any updates on the restaurant’s website.

We got wind of the closure after seeing Instagram stories from Namu Design, showing the beginning of renovation work on the unit for the new concept taking over.

A goodbye message was spotted posted on the front door of Claypot, which shared that May 20th was their last day.

The closing of Claypot marks another loss of a longtime food spot in Richmond, following the recent shutdown of Ebisu earlier this year.

For many, Claypot was a spot that they have many memories with friends and family. So the closure is bittersweet for locals.

But similar to the drastic changes in Vancouver, Richmond’s food scene is evolving a lot.

Just on Alexandra Road, Fish With You and a Seattle Korean BBQ are making its way to the food street.
