It looks like a popular Vancouver Island pizza brand is finally crossing the water.

We recently spotted a building permit posted at the former J&G Fried Chicken/Pause n Sip unit in the West End, revealing that LOCAL Pizza is taking over the space.

This will mark the brand’s very first outpost in Vancouver.

If you have taken a ferry to Nanaimo or Victoria recently, you may have seen this brand.

They have locations across the Island, including Duncan, Comox, and Courtenay.

Their vibe is very similar to the “by-the-slice” spots Vancouverites are used to: affordable combos, convenient locations, and a focus on quick service.

According to their menu, you can expect standard comfort pies.

Offerings range from the classics like Meat Lovers and Hawaiian to more specialty slices like Butter Chicken, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and a Pesto Veggie.

They also serve typical sides like Cheesy Bread, Wings, and Caesar Salad.

But here is where things get interesting.

LOCAL Pizza is actually one of the brands listed on Fresh Slice’s infamous “Beware of Knockoff Brands” poster.

The sign, was spotted at Fresh Slice locations late last year, accusing brands like LOCAL Pizza of being “plagiarized clones” run by ex-franchisees using their proprietary recipes.

There is no official opening date yet, as the brand hasn’t formally announced the location.

LOCAL Pizza joins a list of other upcoming food spots in the city, including The Cozy Wok, Big Way Hot Pot (Robson #3), and Paragon Tea Room on Cambie.
