Another popular Vancouver food spot is heading across the bridge, and this time it is one of the city’s most recognized artisanal bakeries.

A Noms Mag community member (conniekyleung) spotted “Coming Soon” signs for Small Victory Bakery at the Millennium development in North Vancouver, located across from Whole Foods on 13th Street E.

This will mark Small Victory’s fifth Metro Vancouver location and their first on the North Shore.

The new location has not yet been announced on the bakery’s website or social media, and no opening date has been set.

But the signage is up, confirming the expansion is in progress.

Small Victory has been a fixture in Vancouver’s bakery and cafe scene since around 2010, when the brand launched in Yaletown.

The roots go back even further than that.

The family behind Small Victory immigrated to Vancouver from Kenya in the 1970s and started a small bakery on West Broadway, supplying other locally owned businesses across the city.

The next generation took that foundation and built Small Victory into one of Vancouver’s most recognizable artisanal bakery brands, with a focus on European-style pastries, fresh bread, and specialty coffee.

The bakery currently operates four locations: the Marinaside spot in Yaletown, South Granville on Granville Street, Mount Pleasant on West 6th Avenue, and Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby.

North Vancouver will be the fifth.

For North Shore residents, this is a meaningful addition.

While the North Shore has a solid coffee scene, dedicated artisanal bakeries with the kind of pastry program that Small Victory runs have been harder to come by.

The Millennium development location on East 13th puts the bakery across from Whole Foods and within a growing commercial strip that has been attracting new tenants as the residential density in that part of Lower Lonsdale and Central Lonsdale builds out.

Small Victory is not the only Vancouver food brand making the jump to North Vancouver lately.

We recently reported that Ignite Pizzeria is also heading to the North Shore, taking over the former Lift Breakfast Bakery unit at 101 Lonsdale Avenue in the Beasley Block.

No details on the North Vancouver menu or format have been released yet, but Small Victory’s other locations run a full bakery cafe program with pastries, sandwiches, salads, and coffee.
