With the nice, sunny weather and the World Cup in Vancouver, a lot of good things happened this summer.

But as the bad economy rages on, the city’s food scene continues to feel the pain.

This summer, Vancouver lost some longtime food spots and some that never quite live up to the hype they were given.

Here are the 8 Vancouver food spots that closed this summer.

1. Simpatico Ristorante

The Greek restaurant at 2222 West 4th closed after 57 years, and a lease sign taped to the door was the only announcement Kitsilano got.

There is no farewell post, the Instagram is gone, and the website no longer resolves.

It built its reputation on a whole wheat crust pizza that several magazines named the best in Canada in the 1980s and early 1990s.

2. Lucy’s Eastside Diner

The retro throwback at 2708 Main Street quietly closed after 16 years, with “CLOSED BE BACK SOON” scrawled in red marker in the window and a business listing a week later saying otherwise.

A June 11 health inspection had logged three critical infractions, including unsafe refrigeration temperatures and signs of rodent and insect activity.

The original and flagship location of the modern Korean and fried chicken restaurant closed on June 28 after 11 years in the West End.

The announcement landed two days before the doors shut for good. No reason was given. The Robson Street and Coquitlam locations are still running.

The caviar-forward seafood restaurant at the base of the Deloitte Summit building is permanently closed, and it took a while to confirm.

A source close to the restaurant said it shut down over a permit problem. The room is still essentially untouched, glassware racked above the marble bar and the open kitchen still stocked.

The listing carried 4.7 stars from 187 reviews.

5. Don

The upscale Asian fusion spot at 2186 West 4th announced on Instagram on August 3 that it had closed after three years, days after telling followers the closure was temporary.

No reason was given for making it permanent. It was the second restaurant the West 4th strip lost in a matter of weeks.

6. Kuro Katsu

Vancouver’s first dedicated gyukatsu restaurant lasted ten months on Robson Street, opening October 3, 2025 and closing without a goodbye post or an announced last day.

Gyukatsu is the Japanese beef cutlet, fried quickly so the outside crisps while the inside stays rare, then finished by the diner on a tabletop grill.

7. Odd Burger

The vegan fast-food chain closed its only Vancouver location less than two years after a ribbon cutting, announcing it in an emotional Instagram post that cited ongoing problems with its ordering kiosks, online ordering, and a shortage of menu items.

The Main Street shop opened November 23, 2024, and the closure landed abruptly, on the same day the notice went up.

The poke shop served its final bowls on June 22, barely a year after opening on Kingsway in May 2025. The East Van shop was meant to be a comeback, arriving after the brand closed its Richmond and Burnaby locations in early 2025.

It ran as a three-in-one, serving poke alongside katsu and gyudon, with a feature wall of manga panels.

Two of these sat within a few doors of each other on West 4th, and the oldest had been there since 1969.
