Veggie food with a sort of Southern American twist is what’s hot on the grill at West End’s Beetbox, where a beer and a slushie pairs perfectly with a fried chick-un sandwich.

Totally plant-based, proteins such as seitan and tempeh get comfort food treatments, whether that’s fried up like Nashville hot chicken, topped with cheeze and added to a burger, stuffed into a crispy gordita, or laid on top of a rice bowl. Sides of faux ranch slaw, onion rings, or fries topped with peanut gravy make Beetbox the plant-based barbecue spot you’ve been missing.

3. Aleph Eatery

Middle Eastern food without the use of any animal products is the goal at Aleph Eatery, and boy oh boy do they ever pull it off.

Their menu reads like a classic Middle Eastern Shawarma spot, but if you look a little closer, everything is reinvented as vegetarian or vegan. Enoki mushrooms marinated and cooked become the texture and flavour of Shawarma, soy curls are dressed with all the trimmings and transformed into Shish Kabab, and obviously, Falafel is a menu mainstay.

Absolutely get their Aleppo Tahini Potatoes alongside any dish – roasted, crunchy, salty, soft, creamy and done up with tahini dressing, roast red peppers, aleppo and zaatar, these potatoes should NOT be missed!

How We Create Our “Best” Lists

All Noms Magazine’s “best” lists are created using multiple factors and signals to help readers find the best restaurants, things to do, and places to stay at. Some of these factors and signs include personal experiences, correspondence with locals, and compiling experiences from review sites.

Each list is also created to be balanced (in terms of price, cuisine type, ambiance, and more) as possible. This means that the lists are not specifically created in ranking order. You should be comfortable picking from any of the spots on the list and generally have a good time. But of course, YMMV (your mileage may vary) and everyone may have different experiences/palates.
