10 Best Waffle Makers 2022: Comprehensive Buyer’s Guide and Detailed Reviews

Last updated:

I once thought that buying a waffle maker is simply browsing through the internet, scrolling down a few pages and picking one that catches my eyes. It turned out I was completely wrong! The moment I laid my eyes on a product, another item came across questioning me if I needed a cheaper one or one that’s easier to clean. Then would I be happy with one browning setting or five to control different levels of crispiness?

The more I looked into these waffle makers, the more questions springing into my mind. To help you save more time and come up with the right decision right away, I decided to share my own experience after testing out a range of different products including Belgian and standard waffle makers.

So here is a complete buying guide and reviews of my ten favorite waffle makers.

This article includes affiliate links where we may get a small commission if you use our link. No extra cost is added to you.

8 Things to Consider Before Buying Waffle Makers?

1. Should You Buy a Belgian Waffle Maker Or a Standard Waffle Maker?

It’s hard to say if one is better than another! For me, either of these types can be the best pick depending on how you want your waffles to taste. There are quite a few matters that come to mind before picking the right type, and the primary criteria is the level of fluffiness.

Since Belgian waffle recipes call for yeast, you have a light and fluffy bite. To accommodate this thickness, Belgian waffle makers have deep pockets.

Meanwhile, standard (or regular) waffles are denser, flatter, and crispier due to the use of baking powder instead of yeast. Therefore, the grooves you see in a standard maker are smaller with shallow pockets. There are a few more differences regarding shapes and sizes. I’ll dig into these details in the following sections!

2. Size

A waffle maker should be compact and portable. Even for a large, four-slice maker, you should always look out for one that can reside in a crowded cabinet! My tip is to go for one that can stand on its end. If you find one with a cord storage, that’s even better! Belgian waffle makers are technically larger than a standard maker, which yields from one to four slices but it’s not always the case.

3. Shape

I find out the standard waffle makers are available in a wide range of shapes since they are not limited by big grooves and sizes. You can choose from circular, square, rectangular depending on your purpose. When you go down further in my detailed reviews below you’ll even find those designs letting you grill snowflake waffles, Mickey mouse waffles, and a Taiyaki pan like what you see in Japan.

In the case of Belgian makers, the items are limited in shapes due to the bigger grooves and size. The most common shapes are square and circular. One of the coolest designs I see from the niche of Belgian waffle makers is a waffle bowl. My favorite waffle bowl maker is the Presto 03500 like what I recommend below.

4. Features

Those waffle makers on the higher end of the price spectrum are designed with multiple thoughtful features. For me, you should look out for more features if you invest in one for a vendor, bistro or restaurant. This can cost a lot more but in return, you don’t have to spend extra time cleaning up every now and then.

For example, my KRUPS Belgian Waffle Maker I review below comes with removable plates. The Belgian maker from Chefman is my favorite when it comes to the anti-overflow feature. The latest manufactures and today’s machines are mostly developed with non-stick grill plates. Also, a premium waffle maker should have an indicator light or beeper. It tells you when the waffle is ready such as my Cuisinart WAF-F20 Double Belgian Maker below.

5. Browning Levels

Not all but some waffle makers are developed with different browning levels or temperature controls. The higher setting gives me a darker and crispier bite, while the lower settings give me a lighter-colored waffle, which I experienced with the Oster Titanium Infused DuraCeramic Belgian Waffle Maker.

6. Safety Features

What happens if the batter leaks during the event? Not only will it make a mess but also burn your hand. In this case, a locking handle will come in handy to prevent the batter from leaking out of the unit. A locking handle makes so much sense when you have a vertical maker such as Cuisinart WAF-V100.

7. Material

As a food maker, the top priority is to look out for a non-toxic material. You can work around cast aluminum, cast steel, non-stick, and cast iron. Each of them has some pros and cons.

For example, a cast aluminum allows fast preheat time and bake time but it’s hard to clean thoroughly. A non-stick waffle maker is easy to clean but it’s covered in scratches down the road. Cast steel and cast iron take longer to bake but are more durable and avoid scratches easily.

8. Price

Compared to other household appliances such as coffee grinder or blender, waffle makers should not be expensive. For me, the price range of the waffle makers is somehow similar to toasters. The lowest end of the price spectrum can start somewhere around $15 while the most expensive item on my list is just under $100.

You may find even more expensive items in the market but please note that a high price tag doesn’t necessarily equal high quality. Instead, you should look at the features, style, safety, and size! These elements, for me, should always be the first things to pop into your mind!

A Detailed Review for 10 Best Waffle Makers 2021

1. Dash DMW100RP Mini Waffle Maker

Dash DMW100RP

The lowest and most compact waffle maker on the go! This Dash DMW100RP caught my eyes when I was looking for a handy and portable waffle maker for a glamping trip with family. This item is a steal! I paid only $16 for an easy-to-use, lightweight versatile maker with safe, non-stick plates. I only need a basic product on the go that won’t eat up my luggage and that’s why I don’t need all the bells and whistles which give my trip a hassle and an extortionate price tag.

Before packing, I had a look at the recipe book included, and as it advised, I also tried to make waffled hash browns and cookies. They worked like a charm! One heating level does a perfect job! The outside is finely crispy while the inside is soft and hot. Note that your waffles will come out with a light color so don’t expect it to be dark brown like what you get from a multi-setting one!

Due to the size, each waffle is cooked in just under two minutes. For me, time efficiency is also a big thing to consider if you’re on a vacation with friends or family. You need something that cooks fast so you can serve a big group and save time for later activities in a day.

One big flaw I’ve gotta mention is the width of the handle is too small. If you’re not careful enough or if you have kids around, the heated plates are much likely to burn your fingers.

ProsCons
Dash DMW100RP is lightweight and perfectly compatible to bring on a trip. The handle is too small and you have to lift it using a fork to not burn your fingers.
You can choose amongst 19 available colors. The plates are not removable, which takes an extra effort to clean them properly.
Recipes are included to inspire your cooking time.
The heating system is quick and even, yielding one waffle in under two minutes.
The non-stick plate surface is easy to clean and waffles come off easily.

2. Chefman Anti-Overflow Belgian Waffle Maker

Chefman Anti Overflow Belgian Waffle Maker

If you only need a good-performance Belgian waffle maker with an anti-overflow feature, this Chefman is the right way to go! I’m impressed with the price! $30 in exchange for many cool features that a home cook ever needs.

First off, it gives me seven browning settings, and no matter who in my family uses it, they can set the right doneness they want. The size of the plate gives you a medium-size waffle. All the excess batter is caught in the moat, leaving a neat, mess-free space on my countertop.

No matter how convenient it is, you’ve gotta know how to use it properly! Consult the measuring cup included every time you use it to make sure you don’t overflow it. I love the way it comes with a locking latch to make sure the plates are fully closed.

Compared to my Dash DMW100RP above, this Chefman is just a tag a little bigger and heavier. And so if you ever need to bring it on a trip, I would say it’s doable. The only downside I came across is the safety concern with the handle. You will see the hot steam from the machine somehow condenses the handle. Once it’s done and you want to take the waffles out instantly, be prepared that the handle would be really hot! If Chefman can fix this issue by redesigning the draught hole, I would give it a 10!

ProsCons
The maker is straightforward to use at an affordable price.Hot steam comes out of the wrong way and it always heats up the handle.
Anti-overflow moat comes in handy to keep the excessive batter in place. Some say the grooves are not deep and large enough to make a Belgian waffle, but I leave the decision on your side.
It keeps you satisfied with the right doneness thanks to the seven shade selection presets.
Sleep and compact design to coordinate with a modern kitchen style.
A locking latch ensures the plates are fully closed.

3. BELLA Classic Rotating Nonstick Belgian Waffle Maker

BELLA Classic Rotating Non Stick Belgian Waffle Maker

While the Chefman anti-overflow Belgian waffle maker above is a top choice for home use, this Bella rotating waffle maker is a good call for a small vendor. Compared to Chefman, this guy is just $10 higher but the features that come with it do a good job in supporting a waffle vendor owner! Why do I say that? I see that the pockets are a tag deeper, which yields an authentic Belgian waffle while Chefman waffles may not come up to your customers’ likings.

In exchange, a drip tray makes it a bulky item to reside in a crowded cabinet. However, this feature ensures your waffles are perfectly cooked on both sides, with the help of non-stick plates and nine heating levels. Now, since I recommend this one for a food business, one tip that I got from my friend who sells waffles and Hong Kong egg waffles is to spray your grids with vegetable oil before batter slides in. You can re-apply after each waffle or two. This is to make the non-stick plates last longer, even in color and it’s also easier for the waffles to come off, especially when you have to cook in bulk at a time.

If there’s a downside I have to say, it would be the lack of a beeping sound when done. You know when your store or vendor is getting crowded and you have so much to do, a beeping signal really comes in handy so you know when to take it out without keeping an eye on it all the time. Other than this, I would say this Bella rotating waffle maker is the best entry-level item you can get.

ProsCons
This is a budget-friendly Belgian waffle maker with a drip tray for a small business. There’s no number on the dial knob and you have to look closer to get the exact browning setting.
Its sleek and compact design looks so neat and modern on the countertop. The chrome coat looks thin and you’re likely to dent it someday.
The 180° rotary feature ensures even cooking every time. The plates are not removable, making cleaning a laborious task.
The 1000W heating system allows fast cooking. No anti-overflow moat is available to catch excessive batter.
Guesswork is needed since there’s a measuring cup available.

4. Presto 03512 Stuffler Stuffed Waffle Maker

Presto 03512 Stuffler Stuffed Waffle Maker

Think about Presto Stuffler as a twist to your traditional Belgian waffle maker! I highly recommend it even for a waffle vendor or if you need a new spin for your ordinary breakfast.

This item is specifically designed for the stuffed waffle makers and so the plates have deep and large pockets in them, while the other half of the maker is like a bowl where you pour your batter in. Then just put any ingredients into the batter and refill it but make sure it won’t reach the edges, otherwise, it’s going to spill.

When stacking this guy against Bella classic waffle maker, the two items are very similar. Both are rotating, similar in weights, and priced at almost the same. Presto 03512 lets you stuff it, and if you do it right, it won’t overflow. Bella Classic comes with a drip tray which is something not available with Presto.

However, Bella Classic doesn’t give you a stuffed waffle, this is not something they wanted to do in the first place. That’s why for me the nine browning settings make a lot more sense in the case of Bella Classic. I say this because a stuffed waffle doesn’t need that many heating levels to get the right doneness. You want just the right level of crispiness on the outside with a steaming hot, soft, and fragrant stuffing on the inside. Therefore, one browning control that you see in Presto is sufficient.

I’m really happy I got this purchase because it’s so unique, it works well, and is durable. One downside I discovered after my first time using it is the lack of indicator light. It doesn’t always have to be the light, but there should have been a timer or something to signal when the waffles are ready. Otherwise, I’m happy to recommend this to you all!

ProsCons
The machine is straightforward to use with the best doneness for a stuffed waffle. There is no drip tray or anti-overflow moat to keep the batter in place.
It comes with a waffle tong which makes lifting and serving hassle-free.No measuring cup, indicator light, and timer are included so it takes a bit of guesswork.
Locks in a vertical position enhance safety measures.
Ultra-sleek and modern futuristic design that gives your kitchen a quick makeover!

5. Cuisinart WAF-V100 Waffle Iron

Cuisinart WAF V100 Vertical Waffle Maker

This Cuisinart WAF-V100 takes our grilling to a whole new level. Well, the main feature that impresses me is the vertical position. There’s no rotating happening here so basically what you do is set the browning controls first, wait until the green light comes on and pour the batter straight into the square mouth on the top of the machine.

This is one of a few waffle makers on my list to have an audible beep. If it signals three times you know your waffles are ready to go! This is truly a top-notch design! Grilling waffles is a lot straightforward and fun. I would say the grooves and pockets are deep enough to satisfy even the most demanding eater.

For me, the whole point of going vertical is to take up less space, avoid overflow, and make pouring a breeze! I like the way the casing is stainless steel. This kind of design and color looks very neat and durable. Whenever I have some guests coming over, this Cuisinart WAF-V100 is always a conversation starter.

Other than this, five browning levels come in handy. The handles are wide enough so my fingers won’t touch the sizzling plates during the cooking. However, note that the plates are fixed and so once again, cleaning is a bit of a hassle. I always use the included measuring up and so there was never a time when I ended up overfilling or making a mess!

There is one thing I noticed about the mouth of the maker. It’s made of plastic and so if I happen to leave it there for a while before cleaning, the batter will stick to the plastic edge and I have to scrub it. It’s not the end of the world but I think it’s better if you clean it right away. A damp cloth will work too in this case!

ProsCons
A measuring cup is included so you don’t overspill. The measuring cup has no pouring mouth, making it a bit tricky to stay away from the mess.
Ultra-sleek, contemporary and durable material eats up less space on the countertop. The plates are not removable which means cleaning takes extra effort and time.
The batter is much likely to stick and harden on the plastic mouth of the waffle maker.
The handles are much likely to be condensed by steam and heat up.

6. Presto 03500 Belgian Waffle Bowl Maker

Presto 03500 Belgian Waffle Bowl Maker

Here comes my favorite waffle bowl maker! I’m so glad I have purchased this waffle bowl maker and stuffed waffle maker all from Presto. This company makes the coolest things for my kitchen. And guess what? This Presto 03500 is not costly at all! I paid only $25 and it gives me a four-inch waffle that is thick, crispy, and easy to make.

There’s nothing fancy about this product. The core value you receive from it is a fun cooking time in the kitchen. Or even better, if you own a bistro or waffle vendor, go ahead, invest in this little guy, and spice up your menu with a new, healthy, and eye-pleasing dish.

I won’t complain if it’s only one browning setting because for me as a home cook, this is all I need! It gives me a golden waffle with the right crispiness on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Compared to my Dash and Chefman waffle makers above, this Presto does take longer to toast but it’s only one minute longer, which is totally fine for me.

It comes with a recipe book which doesn’t advise me to spray vegetable oil in it but if you do, there won’t be any problem, just the outside is crispier and more brown! Once again, I wish I saw a measuring cup in the box but there’s no such thing and so I know guesswork is still needed! If you can, try a few first times and mark a white line on the wall of the bowl so next time you won’t pour over that line!

The last thing I wish Presto would give this item an upgrade is a “Ready” or “Done” indicator light, a timer, or at least an audible beep. This would make my cooking way easier instead of staring at the machine the whole time!

ProsCons
This Presto is such a handy and cool-designed maker for those who want to spice up their breakfast.Indicator light only signals when the machine is heated and not when the waffles are ready to come out.
The maker is easy and simple to use.
No measuring cup or anti-overflow moat is available to keep the countertop mess-free.
It’s actually a steal if you compare the price tag with durability, housing, and ease of use.The handle at the front is heated during cooking.
This waffle maker is so lightweight and compact to sit neatly in my cabinet.

7. Oster Titanium Infused DuraCeramic Belgian Waffle Maker

Oster CKSTWF1502 ECO DuraCeramic Belgian Waffle Maker

At under $20, you can still bring home a durable, easy-to-use with multiple browning settings. If you’re still wondering which one to spend your bucks on, I highly recommend this Oster titanium-infused DuraCeramic Belgian waffle maker.

What I like most about this Oster is the fact that it concentrates on what customers need most: durable non-stick plates and ease of use. And that’s why instead of giving the maker full of bells and whistles, Oster constructs a titanium-infused DuraCeramic nonstick coating.

To be honest, I have used this maker for over a year. It’s not that long to compare with any other waffle makers on my list. However, the biggest thing I noticed is the scratch-resistance and easy-to-clean surface. The other regular waffle makers in the lower price range are much likely to be covered with scratches if I happen to use it daily or multiple times a week. This is not the worst sign but it would have me on a high note if my plates are not covered with scratches the longer I use it.

One more thing I discovered during my research is that ceramic-coated waffle makers are safer than regular non-stick ones. Some toxic chemicals such as PFOA are a big NO if you lookout for a waffle maker, especially if you cook for kids. If you don’t want to always look out for this specification when buying, go for this ceramic, and rest assured!

Now comes the disadvantages! There is literally no number printed around the dial knob. The only thing I see is a stepless range indicating from Min to Match. For a budget-friendly waffle maker like this, it’s not the end of the world but it can get really frustrating if you don’t know which number to set the right browning level. Other than this, I’m happy to recommend this Oster waffle maker to anyone!

ProsCons
Titanium-infused ceramic coating plates enhance food safety and prolong shelf life. The dial knob is unnumbered, making it hard to set the right browning level.
This is lightweight, compact, and budget-friendly with multiple browning settings to feed a family. The metal casing is extremely hot when the waffles are cooked.
The modern and ultra-sleek design can coordinate with today’s kitchen design. No anti-overflow moat to catch excessive batter.
The plates are not removable but a damp cloth or towel will clean them perfectly.

8. KRUPS Belgian Waffle Maker with Removable Plates

KRUPS 8000035972 8000035972 Adjustable Temperature Belgian Waffle Maker

This is literally one of the best sellers in the range of Belgian waffle makers. Compared to all of the items I listed above, this KRUPS is much more likely to yield the largest waffles that can feed a family of four in the morning.

My first impression of this KRUPS is the deep pockets and removable plates. This is a huge deal! Removable plates give a waffle maker more value, make cleaning easier and that’s why I must agree that $60 for this item is a good price.

This one also comes with an audible beep signal like what you see in the Cuisinart WAF-V100. However, the sound is way louder which I think it’s a bit unnecessary. The “Ready to Eat” indicator light is there but the green light is dimmer than what it should be. If the machine is placed outdoors you definitely won’t see anything. If these two disadvantages are fixed, I’m sure this machine is just perfect!

Does it take long to grill? Yes, it does – around seven minutes for the bites to be ready. However, it won’t hold me back in doubt because, in exchange, I get five browning settings and deep pockets for a perfect traditional Belgian waffle! At the end of the day, a tasty and crispy waffle is all you need. Given all things considered, this KRUPS Belgian waffle maker is a top call to either use in a bistro or at home!

ProsCons
Removable plates make cleaning a breeze. The audible beep comes with such a high pitch which may be annoying for some people.
Deep pockets and large groves are made to yield the perfect traditional or stuffed Belgian waffle for a large family. No anti-overflow moat to catch excessive batter.
Indicator lights and audible signals are available to help you avoid guesswork.
This ultra-sleek machine is compact and neat to be stored in a crowded cabinet.
The handle lock comes in handy to enhance safety during cooking.

9. Cuisinart WAF-F20 Double Belgian Maker Waffle Iron

Cuisinart WAF F20 Double Belgian Waffle Maker

Do you need a double Belgian waffle maker? Yes – if you serve customers because it saves you so much time. You can also get it for home use but I think you don’t have to pay this much. In this case, the KRUPS Belgian waffle maker above is indeed a better choice.

The whole point of a rotating waffle maker is to distribute the batter evenly and so it gets the same browning color on both sides. Making a perfect waffle for customers and guests is the top priority and that’s why you see this Cuisinart WAF-F20 is used in many hotels, bistros, and restaurants.

The light indicator is there. The audible beep signal is there. Plus, it won’t come with a high pitch like what you experienced with the KRUPS above and so you don’t have to worry about startling your customers.

KRUPS gives you square waffles while this Cuisinart is round and smaller. The pocket and grove sizes are perfect for Belgian waffles but if only it was large in size!

There’s no complaint from my side about ease of use, but note that it performs in a different way compared to other non-rotating, single waffle makers! You’re supposed to flip it after pouring on one side to pour batter into the other plates on the other side! Still, it’s very straightforward to perform.

What’s more? The handle! I’m totally impressed by this thoughtful design. While the handles you see from Dash DMW100RP are too small which burn my fingers, Cuisinart WAF-F20 gives me extra-long handles for a firm grasp to flip the machine, as well as open and close.

In final words, this is definitely not a compact thing to store in a cabinet! Plus, it’s heavy! And that’s why I think it’s a better choice for a vendor, bistro or restaurant!

ProsCons
Double “deckers” let you yield more waffles in a shorter time. The plates are not removable but the good thing is that cleaning with a damp cloth after every use will do the job.
Indicator light and bearable audible beep signals eliminate guesswork. The housing coat does get hot during the cooking so you’ve gotta be extra careful!
A drip tray is available to catch excessive batter, leaving your countertop a tidy space.
A large handle and locking latch enhance safety when you interact with the machine during cooking.

10. Waffle Wow! Car Mini Waffle Maker

Car Mini Waffle Maker

The last spot on my list is saved for the coolest waffle maker I’ve ever purchased, a car mini waffle maker from Waffle Wow! And when I say “coolest”, I don’t mean by power, material, brand or features, I mean the design! I specifically bought this as a gift for one of my friends so she could make something tasty and fun for the boys.

This standard waffle maker lets you shape your daily breakfast into cute little bites. You have second little car-shaped pockets on the plates and each of them is a different type of vehicle. Compared to other professional Belgian waffle makers, this one can be seen as the easiest machine to handle.

The only thing that takes a bit of practicing is how you measure the batter. Filling all the way up to the edge will overflow the batter, whereas pouring in too little and you’re unable to scoop them out smoothly. The only advice I have is to try a few times by yourself to get the hang of it and you should be good to go. This one is a standard waffle maker and the size of each car is small, which means the cooking time is indeed pretty fast.

All in all, this tiny piece is so cute and easy to use. I highly recommend it if you buy it for your own use, a present or if you’re looking for something fun to spice up your waffle vendor! For those who need a new inspiration, make sure to have a look at this Snowflake waffle by DASH and this Taiyaki Pan Fish Shape by Happy Sales!

ProsCons
This is an affordable waffle maker to improve creativity for your daily breakfast.Measuring out the right amount of batter for each car is tricky due to the lack of a measuring cup and guidance.
The machine is pretty easy to use and clean up afterwards. No timer, audible beep or indicator light to signal when the waffles are ready.
A recipe book is included to inspire your gastronomy.
A cord wrap is available for compact storage.
