Metro Vancouver has been buzzing with new coffee shop openings, and coffee lovers (like us) couldn’t be happier.
But while many of these new cafes are sleek and aesthetic, there’s actually a new hidden and casual coffee shop that has recently opened in the most unexpected spot.
Thanks to a tip from a Noms Mag community member (Henry Li), we tracked down this hidden gem called Hooray Coffee Lab in Burnaby.
Let’s first talk location.
Hooray Coffee Lab is tucked at the corner of one of the office buildings at Sperling Plaza, which is located across from Burnaby City Hall.
Funny enough – if you’re driving…Google Maps might send you (it did for us) to the adjacent Burnaby Winter Club rather than to the actual Sperling Plaza.
But once you find it, you’re in for a treat—a casual, spacious office unit that’s been transformed into a café-meets-lunch-spot.
Think pour-over coffee paired with Japanese bentos, sushi rolls, and sandwiches.
Unique? Absolutely.
But this isn’t exactly your average coffee shop.
It’s the passion project of a family that owns a sushi spot in Vancouver.
While the bentos and sushi are a nod to the restaurant, the spotlight here is on the coffee.
After running a café in Shanghai, the owner returned to Vancouver to share his love for coffee and casually compete in national coffee competitions.
For the caffeine crowd, Hooray goes beyond the basics.
Sure, you’ll find lattes and cortados, but the real draw is their Set—a pairing of espresso and piccolo—and their pour-over options.
These feature beans from “special guests” that will likely have coffee nerds geeking out.
The interior vibes?
Casual and cozy.
The light green-tiled counter is the centerpiece, with shelves behind it stocked with plants, ceramic cups, and splashes of color.
There’s plenty of seating, large windows letting in natural light, and a corner dedicated to coffee merchandise.
On weekdays, it likely sees a lunch rush, with office workers and community center visitors filling the space.
But come the weekend, it’s a quiet haven for those who truly appreciate a good cup of coffee.
So while it isn’t one of those cute minimal aesthetic cafes to take Instagram photos at, the main draw is in the unique specialty coffee options Hooray offers.
