Last August, we shared that Kazuhan Yakiniku, an all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ spot on Alexandra Road, was listed for sale after being open for just one year.
Well, we finally know who is replacing them.
Say hello to Kumo Sukiyaki, who is bringing their sukiyaki experience to Alexandra Road.
This marks Kumo Sukiyaki’s second location in Richmond, following their first spot near Richmond City Hall on Anderson Road, which opened in early 2023.
Kumo is one of the few spots in the city that serves all-you-can-eat Japanese sukiyaki.
For those unfamiliar with sukiyaki, it’s a Japanese hot pot dish that combines thinly sliced beef, fresh vegetables, and noodles simmered in a sweet and savoury broth.
With Kumo’s all-you-can-eat model, diners can choose from three menu tiers: Silver, Black, and Gold.
The difference between the tiers is the meat offered.
For instance, the Black Menu offers unlimited servings of wagyu beef, fatty beef, pork, and a variety of appetizers.
That said, recent Google reviews of Kumo’s original location suggest there may have been a change in ownership, with several reporting a dip in quality.
Hopefully, this new Alexandra Road location can turn the tide.
The Alexandra Road unit, often referred to as Richmond’s “Food Street,” is a prime location for Kumo’s expansion.
This stretch is already home to a variety of Asian restaurants, and Kumo Sukiyaki’s addition will only add to the area’s vibrant food scene.
While the opening date for the new location hasn’t been officially announced, the signs are already up, signaling that sukiyaki lovers probably won’t have to wait too long.
